It's Friday Pizza Movie Night With Amazon!
Our family has a loooooong tradition of pizza and a movie on Friday evenings. The week seems bearable when you know Friday is just a day away. Being that today IS Friday, we hope you will check out Amazon's great movies tonight. Grab your favorite pizza and enjoy a classic, action, thriller, romance, or family movie from Amazon.com.
My oldest daughter -still a teen, lucky parents that we are (*sigh*)- had to do something absolutely tough for her this week. She had to face her fears and do the right thing by her friends and family. As I watched her complete this monumental effort, I just sat there watching her. Her face was down, long brown hair nearly blocking view of her sweet face, as she spoke. At one point, she quickly looked up and her chocolatey brown eyes glanced at us. It struck me in that one moment, as quick as time can flash, that she was beautiful beyond the natural beauty she had been blessed with at birth. It was her bravery at doing the hard thing, the right thing, that made her absolutely, stunningly beautiful. As you may have guessed, I teared up.
Being as close as we are to the patriot holidays of the summer, I think about things we do, say, and participate in that show our bravery. I think about things others in my family lines have done with full willingness to die as they stood up for those beliefs. There are so many lovely brave citizens of this country that serve around the globe in defense of our homes, liberty, and freedoms. They are truly beautiful people. I love this time of year. Flag Day. Memorial Day. Fourth of July.
Living here in the heart of America's Freedom Festival is pretty terrific. The Freedom Festival always plans more than we can do in the three days of offerings available. It's July 4th that we really kick up the party. We get up at the crack of dawn on July 4 to get to the Grand Parade. On the way, we see dozens of hot air balloons rising on the skyline with the sun rising behind the mountains to the east. Super picturesque! We seem to be lucky every year as we tend to get within feet of the same spot for the parade year in and year out. The kids like the floats, beauty queens, high school bands. We all love the military as they come by in their tanks, trucks, jeeps, and aircraft as they do their flyby's overhead. I get the chills just thinking about it! Firemen, police officers, government officials, notable notables, and community officials all get involved and participate in one way or another. George Q, our local cannon, fires off signalling the end of the parade and the beginning of THE WAIT. What are we waiting for? The Fire of Stadium and firework show that we LOVE! The band, Journey, is coming this year. We've had The Beach Boys, Kellie Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, and more in past years. The fireworks are best enjoyed as close as possible. We pack a picnic and a bunch of junk food while we wait. By the end of the evening we are beyond exhausted from the heat and keeping up with the kids and drop in bed like wilted plants.
Bravery makes beauty.
As I watch the Grand Marshal, someone chosen for extraordinary acts of bravery, or the veterans that are nearly centenarians pass by in the parade, I see faces of humble men and women aged in the brine of time. They are so beautiful. And it doesn't stop with them. Families walking alongside their military family members, my sister- the wife of a local police officer- and her children, my friends finishing the 5K run during the parade pre-show. The stranger in the crowd who has the weight of the world on their shoulders and keeps on smiling. The youth battling pressure to compromise on their standards but is BATTLING. The grandparent fighting loneliness. The family who lost their child, or employment, or struggles to make ends meet as it is. Wherever you are God bless you for your bravery. YOU are beautiful.
Celebrate With Piggy Paint
There is this game floating out in there in our universe that people play occasionally. It circuits through my neighborhood every few years it seems. You may have heard of it. You may have even played it. It's that game without a catchy name but everyone seems to groan when they hear this:
"You tell two truths and one falsehood. We guess which is fake." Or is it "You tell two lies and one truth. We guess which is the truth?"
Remember that one? Played it? What were your truths or lies? Sometimes shopping for a good deal or a wonderful product is a bit too much like that game. I spend hours pouring over labels, product information, MSDS sheets, and more to make sure that I do not offer anything that is less than what the company promised it coulda, woulda, shoulda done. I care too much about my customers, my family, my friends, and my business reputation to err on the side of a "sounds too good to be true" character. It can be certainly tricky to distinguish a company trying to get my money versus the company that legitimately claims their product can do what it really does do well. So how do I pick a product and post it on my electronic shelf for your purchase or for use in my home?
First, I get to know the company on paper. I read, read, read then read some more.
Second, I call their contact person(s) and talk with them, ask them a bajillion questions then promise them that I just may have more later. And that right there is a big deal: The products I offer come from companies that are first-rate in customer service and ALWAYS want me to ask even more questions without a trace of hesitation. CJ, David, Mitchell, or Matt from Nature's Fusion and The Soap Factory are always helpful and answer my questions. When I talk with them I can tell they love their essential oils but more than that, they KNOW essential oil from the scent down to the chemistry. If you are ever in Provo looking for something cool and exceptionally fun to do, stop in at The Soap Factory and custom create your own designer soap.
Lindsay from Piggy Paint is always full of Southern Hospitality. I wonder if I have yet bugged her with the next phone call but she is charming and ever helpful to me. I seriously doubt that that is special treatment. Marc, Katherine, and Lindsay communicate with me in such a helpful and timely manner and are wonderful genuine people running a fantastic business.
Jessica is my go-to for Republic of Tea. I email my order, she shoots me a phone call to double check my order, then gets it to me ASAP with such an air of competency. I am pretty sure she can get me just about anything I ask in less time than I ever expected her to. And the check out clerks, bless them, are never the lucky ones when I bring case after case to their stand but they never complain. They just page another clerk or two and get me in and out as fast as they can.
Lastly, I get to know the companies over time as I order, reorder (or not), and problem solve with them. While I listed a few exceptional business men and women from exceptional companies, the list was definitely not comprehensive. And I am sure I have under-simplified the process of how I refuse to play a game when I am merchandising Buttonhook's LLC with fine, high quality products from companies that pride themselves on standards of pure ingredients, non-toxic to anyone, and their desire to offer goods that are environmentally friendly.
And that, my friends, is the biggest game of them all: The Product Game. You and I get to find those companies and brands we love that never compromise their standards for the love of money. You and I get to find those companies and brands we love that never have intended to hide behind false claims. Sometimes those catchy slogans are simply outright lies.
I ask you this final question: What brands, companies, and/or products have you found and fallen in love with because they stayed true to themselves? Let's help each other find something good in the shopping world today. Ready, set, GO!
My fourth-born had to dress up like a camper for a school program this evening. After tossing the backpack on his back and giving him two thumbs-up, the program began. He is in fourth grade. In Utah. Which means he studied about Utah History this year. Songs, poems, and dance were had. But, unexpectedly, so were tears. I was a bawling wreck as I watched my son sing his heart out pretending to be a camper. I still have no idea what he was doing with his arms at that time but Love sees past weirdness and only pays attention to how fast a wee child has grown up. That was what triggered the tears five minutes into the program.
Someone may wonder how a mother of six children has any tears left, but believe me. There were plenty. Do I dare mention at this point that I had cried my heart out earlier today as well? Tears of joy and pure delight- again! I finally am able to offer my sweet customers the BEST double infusion pitcher on the market. These babies come in four gorgeous and trendy colors: black, cherry red, lime green, and sky blue. While the 2.9 quart (think 92.8 ounces) pitcher boasts an Eco-friendly, shatterproof and stain resistant plastic with a locking lid to prevent spills, this double infusion pitcher is also smartly designed to perch safely in the door of a standard refrigerator! This baby is dishwasher safe and can handle hot or cold liquid easily. Brew your favorite tea using the Tea Infuser. Remove the Tea Infuser and create an iced tea that doesn't get watered down with ice cubes by inserting the Cooling Core. Care to take your tea up a notch? Infuse fruits or whatever your heart begs for using the Flavor Infuser for added depth, character, and flavor to your tea. Gaze upon it's beauty in black:
Before I tear up again I want to wish you happy shopping with us at Buttonhook's shop. Primula's Flavor It Pitcher 3-in-1 Beverage System is a great way to celebrate the opening of www. buttonhookshop.com. Need tea? Try Republic of Tea's Hibiscus Sangria Herbal Tea found in our Republic of Tea section. With its sweet/tart nearly cranberry flavor and crimson red liquid sweetened naturally with Stevia Leaf, Hibiscus Sangria would make a refreshing iced tea using the Tea Infuser seen above. All the very best! - Lisa
